Lost and Found

1. I used three different found images in this piece. A wrought iron pot (http://eplaya.burningman.com/viewtopic.php?t=28965), a wrought iron kettle (http://heartlandcreek.com/about.php), and an image of an old fashioned kitchen (http://www.whitehousemuseum.org/special/renovation-1873.htm). All of these images I found through Google, searching for exactly what they are -- I didn't come across these by accident.  For this assignment it was less that the images caught my attention and led me to an art piece, but rather that I had an idea and sought them out.  What about these pictures in particular that caught my attention was that the pot and kettle were both wrought iron and so looked old and a little dirty. For the image of the kitchen I wanted something that looked old, to match the quality of the pot and kettle, as well as to enhance the message I was making.

2.  What I wanted to do from the start was have a piece that reflected a common figure of speech. I decided to use "The pot calling the kettle black". The more modern sounding text was meant to juxtapose with the oldness of the pots and the kitchen to show how the hypocrisy isn't necessary and doesn't fit -- we should grow past it. I tried to create the same effect by placing the pots outside of the old kitchen, that we may have moved from the old kitchen but somehow they're still here. My choice of wrought iron was both to show how we should have moved past this, as well as to make them look a little dirty, making this a negative representation.

3.  I think I could have done better on this assignment. I like the idea I had to take an old figure of speech and recreate it visually, I also liked how I positioned the images and used the same blue for the text and the background -- creating unity. However I think if I had approached this assignment sooner I could have come out with something better put together.
